Bishop 2010
"This have been the most impressive flights of my life!"
Bishop (CA, USA) might have the most impressive scenery for soaring in the mountains. You got the "White Mountains" in the east as well as the "Sierra Nevada" in the west directly in front of your door. Flights up to 1000 km and beyond are doable as easy as just on a few other places on planet earth.
Half Dome
The ride from Bay Area (CA, USA) itself is already worth the trip. I decided for HW 120, which leads you directly through Yosemite.

In the background you can see the "Half Dome". So far I have seen it only from the crowded tourist trap on the other side, but this side from HW120 is by far more beautiful!

You can easily spend the whole day here!

Getting into the Sierra from Bishop is easy, since you got the deep valley behind you.

Bishop airport 
The airport itself in right next (2 miles) to the town of Bishop, which is a nice tourist town with tons of good restaurants and motels.

There are no streets, and for sure no human was on lots of the places in the picture above!
Canyon
There is a canyon in the valley. Directly north of it is Bishop town.
BASA DG1000
The BASA DG1000 got 3000 hours in just 8 years! BASA is an very active (and attractive) California soaring club.
