M4Data - environmental controll modul :

My first internship project for the ERA-Technology was the development of a environment control module to be used in data recorders. And yes - HDDs already existed. The special problem was the cost pressure. The sensor was later produced in a small volume series.

The M4Data module measures humidity, temperature and air flow. It presents the data on a LCD display or via RS232 to a PC. It can be controlled with a keypad or a PC.

A PIC16C73 SMD device is doing it's job on a 30 x 40mm small PCB.

For measuring the air flow a cheep thermistor has been used. For the measurement it heats up via a current source. If airflow is present then more power is needed to maintain the temperature.

This module worked well and presented with just 10 Pounds/unit a very cheap system for the time.

A PC program demonstrated the functionality and provided sample source code.

After the M4Data project I developed a Profibus compatible high temperature infrared thermometer.
